Somendro Rajkumar (RK Kaiku)

Actor , Imphal

Kaiku Rajkumar, born Rajkumar Somendro on January 3, 1974, is a prominent figure in Manipuri cinema. With a career spanning over two decades, he has appeared in more than 400 Manipuri films, making him one of the most successful actors in the region.

Kaiku was born in Dimapur to RK Modhusana and RK Ongbi Reba. He passed his HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) Examination undertaken by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur from Bengoon High School, Madrassa in the year 1995. Before entering into an acting career, Kaiku married RK Ongbi Kiranmala. He has three daughters – Simran, Krishtina and Phajathoisana.

Kaiku’s journey in the film industry began with his debut in the 2003 romantic film “Kalpana (2003).” His performances have earned him critical acclaim and several awards, including the Best Actor Award for his roles in “Nongmatang (2014)” at the Sahitya Seva Samiti Awards 2015 and the 9th Manipur State Film Awards 2014. He also won the Best Actor Award for his portrayal of Khaba in “Enakta Leiringei (2017)” at the 11th Manipuri State Film Awards 2018. His filmography includes notable works such as “Ta-Tomba The Great (2005),” “Imagi Laman Singamdre (2010),” and “Enakta Leiringei (2017).”

Beyond his acting career, Kaiku has also ventured into politics, contesting the 2019 parliamentary election in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency as an independent candidate. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in February 2022 but left the party in 2023. In 2024, Kaiku Rajkumar has been actively involved in the Lok Sabha elections and has filed his nomination as a candidate of the Manipur People’s Party (MPP) for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. But due to a controversy, he is contesting the election as an independent candidate. Despite the controversy, he is supported by Manipur People’s Party (MPP). This marks a significant step in his political career following his previous independent candidacy and brief association with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Kaiku’s dedication to his craft and his foray into politics demonstrate his commitment to both the arts and public service. His influence extends beyond the silver screen, as he continues to engage with the cultural and political landscape of Manipur.
