Maya Choudhury, born in Imphal, Manipur, is an Indian actress who has made significant contributions to Manipuri cinema. Her career spans over two decades, during which she has appeared in more than 40 Manipuri films.

In 1988, Maya Choudhury made her acting debut in the celluloid film “Meichak,” directed by Laimayum Banka Sharma. The same year, she participated in Miss Manipur 1998, where she secured the 2nd runner-up position and won five other subtitles. Her initial foray into acting was followed by two other celluloid films before she took a break due to marriage.

Maya Choudhury returned to acting after marriage, crediting her husband and family for their support. Some of her notable films include “Basantagee Nongallamdai” trilogy, “Oneness (2022)” (where she plays the protagonist), “21st Century’s Kunti (2010)”, “Tomthin Shija (2017)”, “Imoinu (2015)”, “Pandam Amada (2019)” (selected for international film festivals).

Maya’s versatility shines through her roles in various genres, from family dramas to thought-provoking narratives. As of 2023, Maya Choudhury has finished filming “Oneness (2022),” directed by Priyakanta Laishram. This groundbreaking film is Manipur’s first gay-themed movie and sheds light on the alleged honor killing of a Manipuri gay youth. In “Oneness,” Maya portrays the protagonist, further demonstrating her commitment to diverse and impactful storytelling.
