Khwairakpam Bishwamittra, also known as Bishwamittra Singh, is a multifaceted artist from Manipur, India, who has made significant contributions to the fields of film direction, acting, and scriptwriting. Born on September 12, 1964, in Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, Imphal East, he has become a prominent figure in Manipuri theatre and cinema. His directorial debut came with the 1996 hit film “Kanaga Hinghouni,” co-directed with Chan Heisnam, marking the beginning of a prolific career.

Bishwamittra’s work is characterized by a deep understanding of Manipuri culture and a desire to portray it authentically on screen. His films, including “Kaorage,” “Torei,” and “Sur Da Ngaojabee,” have been well-received for their storytelling and cinematic techniques. He is also a celebrated playwright, with several Shumang Leelas and stage plays produced by AIR Imphal and Doordarshan DDK Imphal to his credit.

His educational background is as diverse as his career, holding a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering from Newport University and a bachelor’s in Political Science (Honors) from Manipur University. His passion for the arts led him to earn double diplomas in Theatre from National Theatre Studies and Rupmahal Theatre, as well as a diploma in Music from Kharagarh University.

Bishwamittra’s commitment to the arts extends beyond his own work. He is an approved drama artiste of AIR Imphal and a Senior Fellow in Dramatic Literature under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. His short fiction “Hang Hang” was selected at the 18th International Children Film Festival 2013 in Hyderabad, and his non-feature film “Eewai” received official selection at the 4th Nepal Cultural International Film Festival 2022 and was screened at the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival.

Through his artistic endeavors, Bishwamittra Singh continues to enrich Manipuri cinema and theatre, inspiring the next generation of artists and audiences alike.
