Makhonmani obtained his doctorate degree in Manipuri from Manipur University. His literary prowess was recognized with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2013 for his travelogue "Chinglon Amadagi Amada".
Theatrical and Cinematic Journey:
His passion for storytelling began with short stories at a young age. In 1987, he joined the Chorus Repertory Theatre in Imphal, acting under the guidance of Ratan Thiyam and traveling internationally with the troupe until 1995. Makhonmani has also graced the silver screen, playing lead roles in movies like “Shingnaba (1998)”, where he portrayed a Thang-Ta teacher.

He directed and produced “Chatledo Eidi,” which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Manipuri in 2000 and was selected for the Indian Panorama of the 32nd International Film Festival of India 2001. His film “Yenning Amadi Likla (2007)” was also selected for the Indian Panorama of the 39th International Film Festival of India. “Nangna Kappa Pakchade (2013)” and “Magi Matambakta (2018)” are among his notable directorial ventures, with the latter participating in various film festivals and winning the Best Manipuri Film at the Jharkhand International Film Festival.
