Biography

Akoijam Bimol Angomcha is an esteemed academic and public figure. He serves as an Associate Professor at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. Earlier, he was with the University of Delhi and the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi. With a rich experience that spans over 16 years, Dr. Akoijam has made significant contributions to the fields of social and political psychology, cultural studies, identity politics, and conflict resolution. Besides being a scholar-activist, he is also a filmmaker and theatre enthusiast. Dr. Akoijam holds an M.A. and Ph.D. and has been recognized for his scholarly work with the Young Psychologist Award in 1998. His academic interests include nation-state and minorities, intergroup and gender relations, popular culture, cinema, and the politics of knowledge. Beyond academia, he has been actively involved in democratic movements and public issues, reflecting his commitment to societal development. In 2024, Dr. Akoijam ventured into politics as the Congress’s candidate from the Inner Manipur constituency for the Lok Sabha elections. His diverse background and engagement with public issues highlight his dedication to contributing to both academic discourse and practical societal change.
