Hijam Anganghal (1896-1939) was a pioneering poet in Meitei literature during Modern Manipur. His magnum opus is the epic poem “Khamba Thoibi Sheireng”, which consists of an impressive 39,000 lines. This work is based on the story of Khamba and Thoibi, two iconic figures in Manipuri folklore. Born in the chaotic aftermath of the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War, Hijam Anganghal’s literary contributions continue to resonate with readers today.
