Chan Heisnam started his career through Manipuri theatre under the guidance of theatre director Wareppa Naba of the Theatre Mirror, Imphal. Chan ventured into the world of films in 1985 with a foray in video films. Later, he took up celluloid filming. Till date, Chand has produced 7 celluloid Manipuri feature films. He directed two of the films. He had also directed 5 digital feature films. Chan has been honoured with 2 State Film Festival awards. They are : Best Feature Film at the 3rd Manipur State Film Festival 1999, and Best Audiography at the 4th Manipur State Film Festival 1999.
