Awards and Recognition

In 2023, the film “Ishanou” was recognized as a “World Classic” by the Cannes Film Festival and was the only film selected from India for that year’s event.

Sharma received the Padma Shri in 2006 for his contributions to cinema.

The Jewel of Manipuri Cinema award was conferred upon Syam Sharma in 2015 by the Film Forum Manipur and the Manipur State Film Development Society.
