Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi, popularly known as Tonthoi, is a prominent figure in the Manipuri film industry. Born on October 17 in Chingkhu, Khundrakpam, Manipur, she has established a successful career in cinema and is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the National Film Award.

Tonthoi’s early life was marked by a keen interest in the performing arts. She is a B.Com graduate who also holds a master’s degree in social work from Manipur University. During her university days, she was an active member of the women’s football team and participated in the All India Women Football tournament. Her love for traditional music is evident in her proficiency with the Pena, a traditional musical instrument.

Her acting career began with a supporting role in the film “Nangna Thawaini.” She has since been featured in numerous notable Manipuri films such as “Loibataare Ta Raju,” “Thoicha,” “Amamba Sayon (Resurrection),” “Eepaktuda the lake,” “Leipaklei,” “Nungshibee Kabaw Valley,” “Beragee Bomb,” “Pallepfam,” and “Phijigee Mani.” Her portrayal in “Phijigee Mani” earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 59th National Film Awards in 2011.

Tonthoi has also made her mark in Assamese cinema, with her performance in the film “Ishu” which won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese in 2017. Her 2019 film “Eigi Kona” was awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Manipuri at the 67th National Film Awards.

In addition to her acting career, Tonthoi has contributed to the industry as a producer, with the Manipuri film “Beragee Bomb” under the banner of Chingkhurakpa Arts. Her dedication to the arts and her contributions to regional cinema have made her a respected and influential figure in the world of Indian cinema.
